Legion d'honneur .....

A bit more about my 4x great grandfather Albin Joseph Leveyer de Belair of Port Louis, France.
I have his birth certificate!
He was born 27/2/1765 to parents Philibert Jean-Baptiste Leveyer and Marie-Anne Madelaine Leveyer (nee Bichard). His dad was also a ship captain. His ship in 1768 was the "Le Conde" in the French East India company.

Albin joined the French navy in 1779 and was captain of a few ships. One was the "Impetueux" and another "Indivisible" involved in some of Napoleon's sea battles. Also the battle of San Domingo. Captain Leveyer is mentioned in a few websites including the 'Correspondence de Napoleon'.

He became an Admiral later in his career and received the Legion d'Honneur (Chevalier class) in 1816. He retired from the navy in 1816 after almost 40 years service!

He died 25 Sept 1829. Thanks to L&L for most of this info. Some websites have his death as 1825.

The original medal for Chevalier class, Legion D'honneur

Here is a little song from Brittany sung by sailors of that region. Found it on the internet:

Chanson de marins

Ce sont les filles de Lorient, jolies
Ce sont les filles de Lorient
Mon Dieu, qu'elles sont jolies, lon li lon là
Mon Dieu qu'elles sont jolies.

S'en vont le soir se promener jolies
Le long d'la cale Ory.

En regardant de vers la mer jolie
Elles ont vu trois navires.

Arrive, arrive, beau matelot joli
J'te souhaite une bonne arrive.

Et si mon mari est dedans joli
Encore meilleure arrive.

Mais si mon mari n'y est pas joli
Au diable vos navires.

Ce sont les filles de Lorient jolies
Mon dieu, qu'elles sont jolies
