Lloyd family of Tipperary, Ireland

As mentioned in my previous post, my g g grandmother Phoebe came to NZ from Ireland sometime in the1870s.

Her parents were Horatio Thomas Lloyd esq. (1802-1846) and his french-born wife, Marie Matilda, nee Leveyer.
Phoebe had an older brother, Horatio Albyn Lloyd and an older sister Matilda Corrine Lloyd.
There may have been another brother, Thomas, but not sure - still investigating.  Update 2019 - there was a brother Thomas who went to Australia. He married Mary Morkin (also of Tipperary) but sadly they both died leaving two little daughters in an orphanage.

The family farmed 500 acres at 'Mountfrisco' in the parish of Bourney, Tipperary. They were landed gentry, part of the Lloyd clan who settled in Ireland in the early 1600s ( see links below) possibly arriving there with the first earl of Strafford:

  1. Hello Deirdre,

We have similar Lloyd ancestors. My Great Great grandfather is John Lloyd Esq. of Lisheen (son of Frederick Lloyd and Julia nee Vereker, sister of Charles Vereker, 2nd Viscount Gort).... You may know that our gg grandpa John came to Canada.

  2. Hi John,
Good to hear from a Canadian relative! So our common ancestor was John Lloyd snr I guess. Of Lloydsborough? I think Lisheen castle is a B&B these days - must try and visit there one day.
    Cheers,
