My maternal haplogroup (mitochondrial dna) is X2 - that means Mum and us kids are X2 coz it goes from mother to child but males can't pass it on. Apparently it's a rare haplogroup.
If you have read the Brian Sykes book "The Seven daughters of Eve" this is the one he calls Xenia. So in our case, working backwards our mtdna goes - us kids - mum - Marjory - Kate - Emily - Lydia - Sarah. Not sure who Sarah's mum was, still working on that, looking at Oxfordshire parish records online. Haplogroup X originates in the Levant and still has concentrated populations in the Druze people. I am 2.6% Neanderthal - ha ha - I can even order a tee-shirt!
Ancestry - as you can see by the chart I'm 99.9% European (mostly north European). A bit of French as expected from Mum's Leveyer line.
I have no Pacific/Oceania which means no Maori. I didn't really think we had Maori ancestry but someone once mentioned that Freda Hargreaves unknown father might have been Maori.
DNA relatives - I have small bits of matching dna with almost 1000 people in the database!
Mostly in the USA because it's a US database. I thought who the heck are all these people??? In reality any common ancestor could be a long way back in time and we may never be able to figure out the connection via the paper trail of ancestral names.
My closest dna matches confirms two of our branch lines: A grand-daughter of Martha Hargreaves (sister of our Fred). I also match her two sons one of whom I collaborated with on the Martha Kirwin (convict) story last year. Dad's side of family.
Another close match is a descendent of Edward & Cecilia York on Mum's side.
There is another person who has York in their list of ancestral names, but they haven't replied yet.
All very interesting.
What I need now is a male to test so that we can discover our Y-dna (the Warren line) to see if we really are descended from Danish kings!
