Grandma York ....

Grandma's mum, Kate Emily WILLIAMS, was born in Dunedin 12th December 1886 to parents Charles Town Williams and Emily (nee Hitchcox). She had an older brother Fred and two sisters Marion and Doris, also a brother Philip who sadly died of Diphtheria aged eight. I will try to find out where she went to school.

As a young woman Kate worked on the Moeraki estate, one of the large North Otago sheep stations of the time. She worked as a nursery maid caring for the farmer's children. Whilst there she met the station cook, a handsome young man from Australia - Tom York. She said to herself she would like to marry that handsome man with blue eyes ......... and that's what happened! They were married in 1907. Here is their wedding photo (click on image to enlarge). I think her dress was grey velvet.
